Anyone planning to travel Hwy 1 between Cambria, CA and Carmel on Sunday April 24,2016 be aware that the Big Sur International Marathon is that day and may have substantial delays at the north end (Carmel).

Drivers taking Highway 1 between Cambria and Carmel on Sunday, April 24, should be prepared for some substantial delays at the northern end of the route, to make way for the Big Sur International Marathon.
According to a Caltrans news release, motorists traveling in both directions that day should expect and prepare for delays of up to two hours.
Traffic will be restricted from 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from Sycamore Canyon Road to Carmel Valley Road. While the southbound lane is closed for the race, the CHP will use the northbound lane to lead caravans of traffic in alternating directions at three different intervals during the restricted period.
The CHP also will manage a closure for left turns from Carmel Valley Road onto southbound Highway 1 from 3:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
