- ORbikerExplorerThe scenic route would be US-20 E, US-95 N and US-12. There would be lots of up's and down's plus curves, but if you are not in a hurry you would love the scenery.

x-2. We did part of this route in '14 from Portland to Missoula. Would do it again if the chance ever comes up.

US 12 in Idaho. - 8ntw8tnExplorerAbout 5 years ago we took hwy 20 from Corvallis to Ontario. Very good road the entire way and really nice scenery on the western half. There was a really good campground on the east side of Burns; sorry, I can't remember its name. We took I-84 east from there so I have no idea what the road up to Missoula is like. Hope this helps.

Years ago, I worked near Eugene and made the trip home to Helena, MT very frequently (every couple weeks) and used this route as it was the best for speed. In my opinion, the routes that are best for speed are usually not the best for sightseeing. So, what is your goal??
If I were making that drive today with my coach and not in a hurry, I'd take a real hard look at US20 - US95 - US12. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIInstead of 20 across Oregon, we much prefer 26 - nicer scenery. Then take 95 and 12 to Missoula. An absolutely beautiful drive OFF the interstates. Excellent for big rigs. We've done that whole route a few times.
