First time to Nova Scotia

We are planning to extend our first time east coast trip to stay for a time in Maine, then hop over to Nova Scotia, arriving about the 3rd week of July.
We will be driving our '99 DSDP at 38 feet and towing our Prius V on a dolly, so our length over all will be around 53 feet.
We have our passports. Can anyone suggest campgrounds that can accommodate a rig that size and give a ball park estimate of the daily full hook up fees?
Also, are there any road or other factors that I should be aware of?
Any blatant rip offs to avoid?
And are electric hook ups the same as the US (plug type, 110 volts/ 60 HZ AC)?
This may well be our only chance to do this and I'd like it to be special (in a GOOD way!).

When I was getting ready to move across The Gulf, Newfoundland still had the best coverage and towers for cell phone with Telus.

& I, I took the road less travelled by.

Phones...our AT&T worked pretty well in Nova Scotia. We are now in newfoundland and it was supposed to work but not so much (twice we have services so far).

Bell is the phone service to have in NL.

We are also in NL & also have a Bell pay as you go. Coverage is pretty bad though we do have service at the moment in Twillingate where temps are in the high 30s. This is June???

OK, folks! Thanks for the good info!
I've not had so much as a traffic ticket in over 40 years, so no concerns on that point.
I wasn't planning on bringing EVERYTHING on that "prohibited weapons" list, but they definitely are assuming that there are NO bad guys up there, or that a Mountie will be there BEFORE they do any harm! ๐Ÿ˜ž
If you are visiting in my neck of the woods and would like the loan of a small deterrent device while you're here, I'd be happy to oblige.
You see, in the US, we most certainly DO have bad guys, and the police will tell you that they only function to catch them after the fact.
Sorry. This whole "disarm the good guys" thing is a bit of.a soapbox issue for me.
I promise to play nice up there. We're coming for a good time, whether we are going to it, or bringing it with us. Maybe I'll run into some folks to play a little music with while we are there. I'm a long time keyboard guy who is trying to learn guitar. I'm no good at it yet, but I have fun trying!
See y'all up there in New Moose City! ๐Ÿ™‚

If the border guards deem something as an offensive weapon, such as a billy club or possibly even a baseball bat they will most likely confiscate it.

Just as an aside, if you have ever had a DUI or criminal conviction in the US you may be banned from entering Canada.

But, as an upright and law abiding citizen, you will have no problems.

We go through the same when we go into the US. That's just the way it is.

Yes, just kidding about brining the '"Doomsday" equipment into Canada. Everything is mounted in cassette fashion, so I'll just swing by the armory on the way out and have them off load it.
We are bringing our Sea Eagle inflatable tandem kayak/canoe boat with us, but we are flat water paddlers and would really prefer the water not to be BROWN! ๐Ÿ™‚
I suppose I might enjoy the Zodiac mud bath, but Carol prefers her aquatic adventures a bit more tidy.

Thanks for all the NS travel tips, folks!
Yes, the firearms thing is a bit of a sticky wicket. But, we will be camping in a number of eastern US states before Canada, and none of them have reciprocal concealed carry agreements with Florida, so we will be depending on something other than firearms both there, and in Canada.
That is with the exception of the Dragon missile launchers and 30 mm Gatling guns built into the RV. They are just too darned much work to remove for a couple month's vacation.
We watched a video of the Zodiac boat rides and mud sliding in the tidal bore.
My wife votes NO on both, but she is bringing her golf clubs, so we will visit the course at Truro (I'm the caddy).

EEEEEK!!!! I trust your joking.

Like, ah, store your firearms in a US facility.
& go talk to the zodiac folks, and the tidal bore locations. The above says you aren't interested in what makes that area really special. There is no other happening like the tidal bore on planet Earth.

Try Louisbourg Fortress, eh!

I just read everything I could find on the Canadian Border Services website.
It's a given that we won't be bringing our personal firearms into Canada (or for that matter, into too many east coast US states either). I'd say more about how I really felt on this issue, but doubtless someone would take offense, so I won't.
What I can't find is a list of objects, or a clear definition of any non-projectile launching device that could be construed as a "weapon" and conficated, or worse.
Can anyone help in that area?

Just remember when you get to the Canadian border, the people there already know that you possess firearms.

Be absolutely truthful and polite in answering their questions. You may get the RV searched, maybe not...depends.

It would be a good idea to go to the Canadian border services website and see what they have to say re: guns and weapons...including spray, mace etc.and any prohibited items. Sometimes that changes without notice.
If in any doubt..DECLARE.

My hope is to one day go to the Maritimes. I hope you have a wonderful trip.

Good choice. You gotta check out Molly's for ice-cream in North River. Truro Golf Club is a neat golf course. Check out the tidal bore in the Salmon River. Harness racing is close by. And it is known as the Hub of NS. If you go to novascotia.com there is tons of info there about pretty much anything to do with NS including a list of campsites. You will definitely want to move around.

Hi Bob,

I know you'll enjoy your time in the Canadian Maritime Provinces, our favourite vacation spot, we're leaving for the Gaspe region the week after next. But please don't attempt to bring your firearms up here without a careful perusal of our regulations regarding them, especially handguns, many stories of ruined vacations and even longer lasting misery.
