First Time Traveling to San Felipe

We have traveled many times to Kino, but not in over 4 years, but this will be our first trip to SF.

We will be crossing at the Mexicali crossing. Wondering if it would be easier to travel by car to the IMM, park then obtain FMM, and then go back and pick up our RV?

Additional question is where is the IMM?

Thank you for your help

    San Felipe is an exempt. However, going only to SF and not exploring bays to the South would be a waste of time. SF and few dozen miles before SF is one boring continuous stretch of gringo-landia, expensive and congested. I doubt you will find SF any more attractive than Kino. As noted, a lot of noise on the beach.

    I would not count on military posts NOT checking FMM. 2 years ago they were doing it, then switched to guns and drugs control, now they reportedly started checking FMM again.
  • Sorry to disappoint some folks but a weeks-old law now allows visitors to stay SEVEN DAYS in Mexico without the need to get an FMM. It's been on the Mexican media, confirmed by consulates, and INM. The only hitch is when asked to do so, exempt visitors must provide a passport for ID.

    San Felipe has been on the EXEMPT list for years. Migracion says visitors staying within the period exempting them from getting an FMM do not need to get an FMM and no one, and I mean not a soul has checked for tourist cards in San Felipe for many years. Going way further south, say to Gonzaga Bay and Alfosina's an FMM is needed in practice.

    There is no way in the world for migracion to determine how long a visitor has spent in San Felipe, so the bottom line is, no one gets an FMM no matter how long they stay and migracion could care less. There is a puesto de control militar next to the los chinos entronque to Ensenada. But they can care less as well, they are looking for guns and drugs.

    Enjoy your trip and bring ear plugs. San Felipe is quad and sea doo paradise.
  • I have reread the FAQ,
    It states under
    "FMM Exemptions are as follows:

    • Visitors traveling by air or sea anywhere in Mexico and staying less than 72 hours
    • Visitors traveling by land to destinations within the 20-kilometer (12-mile) border zone, regardless of length of stay
    • Those visiting as students (as defined by Mexican Migración laws)
    • Visitors traveling by land beyond the border zone and staying more than 72 hours, but limiting their visit to the following destinations/tourist routes:

    Tijuana to Ensenada, B.C.;
    Mexicali to San Felipe, B.C.;
    Sonoyta to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Son.;
    Ciudad Juárez to Paquéeme, Chih.;
    Piedras Negras to Santa Rosa, Coah.;
    Reynosa to China, N.L.,
    Reynosa to Presa Cuchillo, Tamps.

    There may be changes to the above list, stay tuned! "

    However in other places on the Net, it say "Yes" FMM is required for San Felipe. So which is it, Yes or No?
