Fort Worth and I35 construction.

Last year I avoided Fort Worth because of all the construction. Has I35W through Fort Worth gotten any better or should it still be avoided?
  • It was terrible last January on the north side of Ft. Worth.
I heard at Thanksgiving that Austin was a mess. My brother took 4 hours from Waco to New Braunfels.
  • I was through their about noon today. Construction on I35W on tbe north side of FW is still bad. It was ok after getting through downtown. Lots of traffic on I35 until we turned off in Waco to go to Houston. Good luck.

I always catch the toll road at Georgetown and avoid Austin.
  • I would too but I haven't been around there since the kid graduated Baylor in 2005.
My brother is a CPA, he ain't paying no stinking tolls!
I-10 west out of Houston was a mess until Columbus on Thanksgiving eve.

Last January on my way to the Chili Bowl in Tulsa I saw all manner of mess. Mid day on a Monday...pickup truck on its side on top of the Jersey barrier, on the opposite side as me. I must have sat in traffic an hour. Then this last June the same thing. This January I'm going through east Texas to Hugo then to Tulsa. Y'all can keep Dallas/Ft.Worth for a while.

Obviously your brother, the CPA, places no dollar value on his time! To each his own.
  • Its getting better since they did the lane shifts and reduced the amount of on/off ramps in the heart of the construction, but it still backs up pretty bad around western center(exit 58) during rush hour.

Your best bet is buckle up, grit your teeth, and suffer through it. Even with the construction its still easier to get through than taking 35E in Dallas
  • Personally - I go west of Fort Worth and take US-281 down as far as San Antonio - miss the whole I-35 mess.
