Fort Worth to Denver stopping places

Good Day Good Sam peep!

My wife and I are traveling to Denver, leaving Monday morning after the snow storm has finished and it begins to warm. I'm not going thru Raton Pass to be safe of any ice spots. I asked what the best route would be and most agreed 287 to Limon then 70 to Denver.

What would be a good place to have an overnight stay on this route? I'd like to get thru Amarillo and maybe an hour or two past. Any ideas?
  • We have overnighted at the Walmart in Dumas, and the Flying J in Limon.

If you don't get that far, the Flying J and the Texas Travel Information center in Amarillo are also good.
  • Flying J at Limon!
Lamar has Sportsmens that is oriented towards horse folks. State park at the lake west of Lamar. Country Acres Rv and Motel in Lamar.
Been looking myself. Thinking about my 287 adventure...Beaumont Texas to Browning Montana.
  • There is a Free Camp ground (all pavement) in Dumas, TX. Lamar, CO. (not real fancy), also a KOA in Limon,Co. A few others, Not sure which towns.
