Rick is homing in on the Guerrero/Michoacan coastline with landfall predicted after midnight tonight. At the moment, it looks like it will make landfall right around Lazaro Cardenas, and with any luck remain a category 1 storm.

Expect serious problems on Hwy 200 from about Acapulco to Manzanillo, with the potential to have bridges out and landslides. The road up from the coast to Patzcuaro will also probably have some serious problems.

Fortunately, repairs and detours occur quickly here, but do expect to see damage.

The US Canadian border opens Nov 8, and we had guesstimated that the RV parks here in Zihuatanejo would have people rolling in on the 15th of November. Just remember that the last stretch of road could have some issues and plan for extra time.

Sitting here in Zihuatanejo listening to the rain with everything put away, just waiting for the wind to hit!!!

Highest wind gust was 48mph, since midnight we have had 8.05 inches of rain. The rain stopped about noon, the power was out from 1:30am until 2:30pm. The wind stopped about 8am. The whole thing started big about 1am.

LOTS of trees down and debris everywhere. The sun is out now and there are beautiful blue patches in the sky.

Only one issue, and it's a big, expensive one. The ground is so saturated that the water flowed into the electrical connections for the pool and flowed into the underground room that houses the filter and pump among other things. The power was out so the sump pump couldn't pump the water out. Yup, the $5,000 pump was underwater. Can't contact anyone yet because the power is still out in a lot of places so no cell service. Oh well, we'll get one ordered right away.

So, our first hurricane was loud, wet and costly!

Good morning:

....I'm looking at a live (5 minute delay) weather camera in Zihuatanejo, aimed at the beach, and 2 blocks in. I see electricity (lights) on across numerous buildings. The ocean action looks rough. Electricity on? Good news. The rainfall rate presently is 2.98 inches (1 inch per hour) right over the top of Zihua....stay safe!

On edit: the wind is presently 37 MPH (appx 17 meters per second); with gusts to 63 MPH (appx 19 meters per second) at the beach head

Amazingly, it's after 4pm and still no wind. Rain? It's been raining steadily all day but we are still at only .75 inches.

May it stay boring!

Let's hope this is the last hurricane this year. Up here in Guayabitos we thought we would have to move our RV away from the ocean if that storm had come farther north. Stay safe and post an update when you can. We are praying for everyones safety.
