Indiana Roads

We just finished towing through Indiana from Nashville, Tn. We took the I65 and the roads are in bad shape, but then when we got onto the I69 heading East it was even worse. We will try to avoid this state in the future. We thought Birmingham, AL was bad, but Indiana is much much worse. This is a shame as the last time we went through Indiana about 4 years ago, the roads were pretty nice, but not anymore.
  • Didn't Indiana get BILLIONS of dollars when they sold the toll road to some foreign company and then a few years later they got the toll road back when that company went bankrupt? So they got the road AND the billions.

What the heck did they do with that money? And why didn't it go into a road maintenance program? I am a former Hoosier and we'll be travelling through Indiana this summer, so thanks for the info. We'll now be plotting a non-interstate route.
  • i make several trips to Indy each summer. The shortest, most convenient route from the north for me is I-65. But, it has been in such bad shape the past several years that I take an alternate route.
  • I've lived here my entire life. I agree with everything that Dutch said.
  • :B Surprise! Welcome to Indiana!

Really... I've been attempting to warn everyone about the interstates in Indiana for years now. Of course, if you are towing anything, you REALLY feel the bumps and cracks, not to mention those sections where they finally got everything NICE and SMOOTH, and 6 months later, dig it all up!

I-75 from Indy to Cincy, I-69 from Indy to Ft. Wayne. I-65...the entire length! I-70, especially between Indy and Richmond, and Richmond area is horrible.

Considering I live in Indiana, When traveling anywhere in the state, I avoid interstates as much as possible because of both the speed demons and the rough roads.

If you had opportunity to get off the interstates, you'd find the secondary roads (highways) are much better, and... believe it or not ... the county roads are smoother than the interstates!

I live on a county road and it makes interstates look sick! (well, they are!).

Nice alternatives, if you don't mind a slower pace is US 40 (East-West) and US 31 (North South), Highway 3, 1, (North South), Highway 28, East-West. Basically, anything but interstates!

What's really bad though, as soon as they get a section of the interstate re-paved, they dig it up again, almost immediately, and then leave horrid bumps! Awful... simply awful!

But ... now you know better! (Take the secondary roads! There's a LOT of very interesting things to see when you get off the interstates anyway!)
