Kerrville, TX to Galveston,TX

Trying to map out my early 2015 RV trip. We will be traveling from Kerrville, Tx to Galveston,TX on Interstate 10. Now not being a fan of San Antonio traffic, it looks like I can bypass San Antonio by taking Hwy 46 at Boerne,TX and reconnect with Interstate l0 around Seguin,TX. Has anyone ever driven this Hwy 46 though this section?

    We came around on 1604 - no problems, just a few lights when the freeway ends for about 3 miles at I10.

    The bigger issue is Houston traffic and I don't think you can avoid it.

    Thanks to all who have replied. I think I will try this route. I will be traveling through on a weekday, but I feel sure that school buses and rush hour will be over by the time we get there.

    It's a good road but gets a little slow at spots during business rush hour and school bus times. If you're traveling on a week day it should clear out by the time you get there from Kerrville.

    yes, that's a good alternative road. watch the road signs; take the loop road going north...I'm sure 46 highway will be listed on it.

    It's been a few years since I have been that way.
    Don't remember what day of the week.
    It was a two lane road with lots of traffic.
    My trip was slow going that day......
