We just came back from a day trip to El Quelite and discovered the Mazatlan By-pass is open...so we drove it all the way to Villa Union. There are no exits in between, but some on/off ramps are in construction. The cost for a car was 50 pesos. Certainly was a nice surprise to see it finally open.

That was also a surprise for me. I waited for several decades for this to happen. The only problem I encountered today was that due to the holidays, there were caravans of people driving south. It looked like Okies with their pick up trucks filled to the top with mattresses, washing machines and refrigerators. There were huge lines everywhere. All motels were full. Some Pemex gas stations ran out of gas. That had never happened before. The roads? Well, same 'ol same old. Beat up for the most part. Don't want to bad mouth Mexico, but after driving down there for more than 5 decades, this will most likely be my last trip driving. My body just can't take the shake, rattle and roll of those roads.

We sure did ..and an excellent meal it was..but the live chicken sitting on her eggs in a Christmas basket two feet away at table height from our table was the conversation piece..Made my day!!!

Did You have Lunch at El Quelitte? We love that Restaurant on the side street down from the square!

Glad to hear that the New Road is open! 50 Pesos is well worth just missing those guys with the squeegees !
