MN to Venice Fl - Best/Quickest Rt?

We are taking off early Saturday morning and driving from MN to Venice, Florida and are looking for the best route that avoids Chicago but also gets us into warmer weather to avoid hazardous driving. Anyone know what is the best and/or quickest route? (We will be stopping at night and will stay at a hotel.)

    We are leaving on Sunday Dec 28. I would take I-39, I-74, I-57,I-24, I-65, Route 231 to I-10.

The route 24 is all 2 lanes over to I-65 and then you have Indianapolis to content with.

This is extremely good advise! We just pulled our fiver from Peoria to Clarksville taking I-74 to I-57 to I-24.

The day after Christmas we will run through Nashville just before 7am and then take I-65 down to Montgomery, US RT 231 (divided 4-lane) to I-10, and across to I-75.

If you want a relaxing route that is not much longer, try this one.

The worse roads are I-57 in Illinois but if you have ever traveled some of the interstates in California then you might think you are on new pavement.

x2 my last time thru Indy was a nightmare of road construction. It might be finished now.

  • I 39 South, U.S. 24 East, I 65 South, I 10 East, I 75 to Venice.

All good roads. Rt. 24 is an easy drive that will take you the shortest distance to I 65 and avoid the Chicago mess!!!!
  • MS S&T shows from Mpls area over and down I-39 which misses Chi-town and gets you south about as quickly as it can be. I always go on I-39 to miss the Chicago area as much as posible.
