Try the demo...

I can't figure out why the eBook is so much cheaper but I'm glad it is. Other things, like where gas stations are located...not included. - pauljExplorer IIDoes Mountain Directory supply any significant information this route? Anything that we haven't already mentioned?

Mountain Directory West is a good resource.
I went into amazon and looked at this. They wanted like $150 for it. Yikes! But then I discovered you can download as an eBook or for your iPhone. The eBook cost $17.

So if for some reason one of the roads you plan to use is shut down and you have to reroute, you'd have a resource. We're always carrying a laptop, anyway. For $17, easy call. - murphysranchExplorerLove GP. Have tried to move there three times, but something gets in the way every time...someday...

Thanks so much all. We are coming from grants pass to reno.
From Grants Pass simplest and easiest is I-5 south to 89, to 44, 36 to Susanville, south on 395 to Reno. No fuel on route from McCloud to Susanville. Burney and Old Station have fuel just a couple miles off route. Only grade of any note after you leave the interstate is 44 leaving Old Station, about a mile of grade then mostly flat. Do not try 89 through Lassen Volcanic NP in an RV. Doable, but narrow and curvy.
Alternate 36 from Red Bluff to Susanville. Long gentle grade then levels off. A couple of low passes. No fuel between Red Bluff and Chester.
Agree totally..this is the best route!
Another YES vote.
That is the route we always use going back and forth to Oregon and beyond.
Safe travels. - cpaulsenExplorer

- pauljExplorer IIKeep in mind that Portland is near sealevel, Reno about 4000. East side of the Oregon Cascades (Bend) is about 5000, not much lower than Cascade passes,
One route is I5 out of Oregon, and I80 over the Sierras. There's one pass leaving the state, and another over the Sierras.
US89 and US395 is a good diagonal from the Mt Shasta area to Reno. That mostly runs at 4000ft, without significant passes.
There are several routes over the Oregon Cascades to US97. OR31 cuts over to US395 which leads you down to Reno. Mostly that runs at the 4-5000 level. - Dick_BExplorerMountain Directory West is a good resource.
