Navajo Nation

Last year we went from Denver to Moab and then to St George and south to Big River/Parker. This year we may be in Moab again so I'm wondering how people feel about going south through the reservation. I did search a little and noticed that no alcohol is allowed and it seemed that concealed carry and guns are ok if you dont leave the federal highway.

I did notice on here a while back about rv's being pelted with rocks in one of the Canadian reservations but didn't run across anything like that in the USA. I know someone in Colorado who wont go that way to Phoenix because of having a vehicle break down and stripped long ago but that's just one person long ago. Seems like a lot of people would be doing it but what can you tell me about it. Thanks

    the only caveat I would say is that if you stop at overlooks where you have to walk a ways out of sight of your vehicle, if you see an old beat up pickup in the corner of the lot with two old geezers sitting in it, have one person stay with the vehicle. after a trip through I noticed paint chipped off the edge of my door and it finally dawned on me that somebody had tried to jimmy their way in with a tool.

    Well you know the cowboys and Indians are still fighting it out in the wild west, you might want to watch out for bullets and arrows.

    Really? Millions upon millions of cars, trucks and RV's travel the highways through the Navajo nation every year with no problems, you won't even realize your on the reservation if you happen to miss the signs that say you are.

    This post is ridiculous. If you feel you have to be constantly looking over your shoulder then don't go. Don't go to Chicago and any other city either. You probably wouldn't want to drive along the Mexican border either.

    The Navajo are wonderful people. We've toured the reservation areas often. We stopped in a town that had a ceremonial dance celebration going on. I believe we were the only non-Navajo at the celebration. The people around us were proudly explaining the whole ritual to us. We were interviewed on their local radio station. We received welcoming smiles the whole time.

    Regarding guns, do your state law checking out. We don't carry and never felt the need to do so.

    I go out of my way TO DRIVE ON THE RESERVATIO! Window Rock is Neat and Canyon de Chelly ranks up there with Zion. Seriously, let's speak from your Experiences not from some whisper campaign.







    To miss all this would be CRAZY.

    Please avoid the area you may fall in love with it.

    Couldn't agree more. Funny that the person who claimed there were still hard feelings is from Florida. Have lived in AZ for 27 years, and, yes, there are some Indians that are less than pleasant, from what I've seen and experienced, a very small percentage. However, as a percentage, I find many more disagreeable white people. As for alcohol, you need to keep it out of sight on the rez, that's all. As long as any firearm is out of sight, and being legally transported you should have no problems.

    I love it, and the all the people of the Navajo Nation, Will never miss the chance to Visit.

    I don't understand why there is a question. It is a beautiful place, although somewhat empty, as it should be. Fill up on fuel before entering, if low, as services are few and far between, more so than other parts of southern Utah.

    I guess I'm accustomed to the idea, living the past 35 years in the Cherokee Nation, at the edge of the Osage Nation.
