Nebraska SR 2

Planning a return to the Black Hills area next summer. Won't have a huge amount of time, but plan to take some to travel this route. Other than a more leisurely pace and prairie scenery, what are your "must see" sites along route 2?
  • Just past Halsey is the Nebraska State Forest and tree nursery. Acres of trees in the middle of the grasslands. Nice campground. If you ever watched the tv sci fi mini series called Taken, this is where part of the show was filmed.
There is not a whole lot to see (IMO) along this route, but it does give us an idea of what it looked like for the covered wagon folks. If you have to stop for a break, you have to get off into a little town because there are NO scenic pull offs or rest stops along the road. Not much traffic, either, which is a plus.
Alliance is a nice little town with lots of train traffic but some decent rv parks and probably a nice cafe...have not stopped to see.
  • I'm surprised! Noone else has any suggestions along this route? Anyone? Bueller?
  • What are you expecting? Based on a random sampling of Streetview images it all looks about the same - generally flat, slightly rolling, with parallel railroad.

Have you written the Nebraska board of tourism for suggestions?
  • Fort Robinson outside Crawford, and if memory serves there is another dino site
    pretty close
  • Fort Robinson is a great place to visit.
Ash Hallow is also a good stop.
