Nevada 447

Looking for any information on Nevada route 447 between Cedarville and Fernley. Taking this vs. 395 shortens our trip by a few miles and it bypasses Reno. But if it is a really rough road, I will stick to 395.
  • Great road. Good advice about watching your speed around Pyramid Lake. Driving the back roads in Nevada at night is always risky due to livestock and wildlife on the road.

If you drive at night, go under the speed limit, use your high beams and have a spotter help you find the critters on the road. Black Angus cattle are the worst and they are very popular.
  • We have taken 447 several times and it's great two lane black top road,
gas up in Lakeview as Cedarville doesn't always have gas, their was gas in Gerlach the last time we were their.

Be very aware of your speed when traveling on reservation land. Tribal police have and use radar to write tickets.
  • Don't drive it at night. Black cow on the black highway during a black night kind of thing. Drive off the top of your tank. Otherwise it is just another ribbon of asphalt.
  • Most black hwys in NV are good. We did 447 a few years ago in a class B MH. Highway is nrrow in places. Below is my day log info.
Day 1 - Thursday, September 1, 2011 On The Road
Out of Fallon at 9:10 AM PDT heading West to Fernley then North on 447. Quite a bit of traffic on 447 due to Burning Man at Blackrock Desert, Once we got past Gerlach heading to Cedarville a lot less traffic. 447 is a shorter route, but you can’t make as good of time on it. 190 to Cedarville, four hours. Had lunch at Country Hearth Café/Bakery. We Stopped 14 miles S of Lakeview at Goose Lake OR SP site # 13 w/20 amp electric & water $20.00. This is a nice park, sites do not have lake view and showers are not the best.
