Some construction North of Charlotte on I-77.....C
  • If you want to have a pleasant ride, avoid the NY/NJ/BALT/WASH corridor and pick up 95 just south of richmond. Those aforementioned areas a pretty darn congested and it is especially true of rush HOURS. They don't get it that you cannot stop on a dime.

OR at very least do the balt/wash after 9 at night, on weekend or very early. FYI, we found out last year that going south on 95 (talking virginia/nc/sc/georgia) just after Christmas is not an original idea. Everyone else has the same idea. There were some 40 mile per hour slow downs due to the volume and just weird people. Oh, yeah, like the guy driving a small car with platform on the back...he had stuff shrink wrapped to that and the top and was going 40mph down route 95 (two lanes).

Enjoy your trip...we leave end of January.
  • Thanks for every ones input...I always leave real early saturday morning ..getting me to collage park by 3-4 depending on traffic.then up early on sunday through DC and Richmond ..then it's usually clear sailing..but yes leaving through the holidays as I found out one year is not a good idea..

We head out from New England in a couple of weeks to southwest FL but we skip 95 and head over to PA and take 81 south then 77. I guess we'll have to watch the construction on 77. Thanks.

  • magicbus I came thru that way on the 19th, down I-77 and the construction is still the same as it has been for the last 3 or 4 years. From just south of Statesville I think into Charlotte all thru the lake Norman area is cones and construction. It will sure be a nice road in about 8-10 more years. I'll be long gone...….

I like the I81 to U 77 route most Of The time....then after Mooervills take I485 around Charlotte, will miss some construction not all....the West on I85 to Commerce,Ga and take 441/129 to I20 ,there pickup st 83 south to Forsyth,Ga and I75.....then head to southwest Florida
Missed most of the big cities and constuction...C
