New Jersey questions

I was born and raised in NJ but have not been on these roads in a LONG time...so here is my route to get to inlaws in Jennersville, pa (near kennet square).

We usually go another way through pa...

How is route 202 through NJ to Doylestown to 611 down to pa turnpike? We know there are some stoplights but are there a lot?
  • Yes there are traffic lights but not too many to nix the route. This is a much better route than US 206 which has too much traffic and too many kights.

If you are going south on I-287 make sure you get on 202 in the Somerville area and not before. 202 parallels 287 for a bit and you will see signs for it before Somerville.

You can also get off 202 at SR 31 and go south to I-95 and cross the Delaware for free.... then hook up with the TPK.
  • 202 can be a real pain in the butt. I think I'd take 287s to 78w. I'm not sure if you can get onto the pa tpk directly from 78, but you could take 78w to 33n in Pennsylvania up to 22w to pa tpk. No lights, all easy highway driving.
  • 476 in pa has some detours/construction we are trying to avoid and that is why we are not doing the 287 to 78 route. It may just have to be 202...
    Thank you.

  • Donna, we went north on that route back in August - we took the Commodore Barry over to I-95 in Chester, then I-476, the "Blue Route" north to the mid-county interchange where the Schuylkill Expressway, the PA Turnpike, and I-476 as the Northeast Extension all come together. We got off there and went up 202 north into Jersey, and took that all the way to Bridgewater NJ where we hopped on I-287. 202 in Jersey was not all that bad, but parts of it through Bucks County in PA were stop and go for a bit - and this was on a Friday in the summer. If you're coming SOUTH, it's probably not all that bad, depending on your tolerance for stop-and-go traffic. I can take it for a dozen or so miles, but after that it gets really tiresome. In any case, I assume you'll be taking I-476 south from the Turnpike, then Route 1 west to Jennersville. That won't be bad, but the Blue Route can get backed up during rush hours - on weekends, its not bad at all, to my experience.

And you're right, the I-476 in PA which is the Northeast Extension is undergoing widening and lots of other work. But the part SOUTH of the turnpike, that cuts through Montgomery & Delaware County west of Philly does not have any major construction problems, just volume during rush hours.
  • Thanks Jim that sounds doable...stop and go would drive hubby nuts and I would rather poke along than stop and go.
    Thanks!
