Planning our first TC trip

Were scheduling our first trip in the TC and since I'm trying to convince the GF that the TC is the next best thing to owning a shore house I have to make this trip super fun and female driven!!

(I hope I'm not making her sound miserable and hard to please, she isn't. Sweetest woman Ive ever known. She is just somewhat new to the camping routine)

We're leaving the Philadelphia area heading to Salisbury MA to check out Salem and Boston for Halloween weekend. We both enjoy history and any type of haunted attractions. What I'm looking for is a route that has nice fall scenery and or attractions between ie. water falls, views, even odd stuff like the worlds largest dust ball.

I'm planning on swinging out to PA and heading North to pass the North Jersey/NY crazy traffic both directions.

Any suggestions or tips?

If knowing my schedule helps were pulling out of South Jersey Friday Oct 28th about noon and leaving MA to return Monday morning.

    Late October might mean season closed campgrounds. You can check out campgrounds along whichever route you choose at Allstays.com and then give them a call to determine when/if they close.

    Thank you. I found one in Salisbury that closes in November and I'm waiting to hear back from them.

    Maybe you should start with a romantic night in the driveway! Some roses and bubbly.

    Good test without the stress of traveling the first time.

    My advice would be to not pack too much into each day -- spend time relaxing together (reading, quiet meals, whatever suits your fancy). The real magic of camping, in any kind of RV, is not just that it is a mobile motel room. It is instead that camping can be much more pleasant and leisurely than staying in a motel. (We did not know this when we bought our first trailer -- we thought it was a substitute for a motel, rather than a whole new way of traveling. Ignorance!)

    With that in mind, try to pre-prepare meals, if possible, so that you do not spend a lot of time on drudgery while camping. Use paper plates and plastic forks, instead of having to wash a lot of dishes.

    OK, I'm a midwesterner, but I loved just walking through Salem on Halloween! The streets are full of actual witches in full regalia. Loved it! In Boston, I wouldn't miss Phillips for seafood if you are a seafood lover! Have a great adventure!

    Keep the trip as short as possible doing more things from one place. Take the bus tour of Boston; lots of history. Do NOT try to drive around Boston in your vehicle.

    OK Ed,

    First, Do Not Take I-95. That leads you into NYC and though you may be experienced at driving in Megopolis, it is not a place for anything but a disposable passenger car. Cross the Hudson to the north, where does not matter.
    If you want fall colors, stay inland.
    If you want quaint New England, take Rt-1.

    This is your first time with this particular RV, do an night close to home. A Walmart lot will do.

    This is your first time in an RV ever, then do the first night in the drive way. You will be surprised the things you will learn fast.

    I don't know how you plan to navigate the east Megopolis, but you will get into wrong places. Just grin and say - OOps.

    Thank you everyone, Im familiar with heading North only for jobs that Ive done. Drove up the coast to Maine last year with a 26'box. I'm planning on going NW from here on one road or another to avoid the NJTP AKA 95N. I'm thinking take the NE Extension towards the Poconos and head North in to NY from there. Just trying to catch some scenery on the way there and back. I know one member had mentioned in another thread that VT was really nice to run through that time of year. I'm use to just plugging the address in the GPS and going but that usually ends up running me through every industrial ghetto area between the two points and that's what I'm trying to avoid. Dani was looking into the city pass for Boston.

    Use the rule of 3. 300 miles MAX per Day less is better. Be at your destination no LATER than 3
