Planning trip to Charleston SC

I stayed at the Mt. Pleasant KOA when I visited. One big advantage - you don't have to cross the Ravenel Bridge which is very busy in the early evening. And if I had seen the KOA sign, I wouldn't have had to cross the bridge in my 'C', pulling a Jeep Wrangler 4 down. Lots of traffic and no way to back up. I finally found a gas station that I could pull thru to turn around. Charleston is a lot more fun to visit driving just the Jeep. And you're also on the same side of the Cooper river as Patriot's Point. Several WWII Navy ships that have been turned into museums. I extended my stay for a full week at the KOA.

You can avoid all of the low hanging limbs and the tight turn on Camp Road by staying on Folly Road until you see the Walmart sign. Turn just before Walmart, go to end of the road, take a right back up to the park which will be on your left. It adds about 1/2mile to the trip with trailer or MH.

We are headed down to Charleston in June. I am retired Military and will be at Foster Creek FAMCAMP. This will be our second trip to the area. I mention the FAMCAMP in case you were ever in the Military, it would be a place to consider. Eric

We have stayed at James Island a couple of times in the past. Nice. However, it is not just a 'short' ride to downtown Charleston. More like 30 minutes. Couple of the streets have low hanging limbs leading to the park

In town, take a tour of the historic areas. Visit Magnolia Plantation just down the road and the HL Hunley project at the Warren Lasch Conservation facility in North Charleston. We also enjoyed the SC Aquarium.

Another vote for James Island, but if you are military, retired or DOD, Foster Creek RV Park in Goose Creek is nearby. Nice, full hookups, $22 a night:

I concur with the others about James Island Park. A very pleasant, clean campground.
