Portland to South Lake Tahoe

We would like to travel to Crater Lake, then to Tahoe. What are some rv friendly hwys (besides I5)to get there? Would like to bypass Sacramento if possible. Thanks!
  • Collier Memorial is a really nice campground with a neat logging exhibit!

I5 to Medford, up to Crater Lake, down to 97 south. At Klamath Falls SE to Alturus, south on and off 395 to Reno. Probably the best and shortest road.

This is how I would go....Dennis
  • US395 through Reno followed by US50 to the Lake is probably the fastest and (overall) flattest. It's divided on both sides of Reno. Obviously there will be a climb at the end.

CA89 goes all the way to the Lake (after crossing I80). But go around the east side of the lake, not the curvier west. I like but it is 2 lane, and not quite as RV friendly.
  • another option:
I-5 to Hwy 58 at Eugene (some climbs and curves just take it slow), 97 to Crater Lake. If you need a campground, Collier Memorial State Park is the nearest to Crater Lake. Then at Klamath Falls, take Hwys 39-139 to Canby, then 299 to US395 south to Lake Tahoe.
