What has to be taken into consideration is that virtually every city in the world has neighborhoods that tourists should avoid. It is also important to note that bad guys like to stay under the radar of the police and therefore usually avoid the tourist areas because that is where the local economy gets a large portion of it's money and the police are very protective of that area to our benefit. While this includes Mexico, I have found this to be the case world wide. As I said before, we have been going to RP for about 25 years and never had a problem or felt unsafe. Be smart, be safe and have fun.
