route 54
Hi new member, would like to know how route 54 from kansas city mo to tucamcari nm is . pulling 2013 winn 32 5th with 09 gmc 2500hd.Last time on that road was in 1988.

- 56 to I-25 is a good alternative also. From KC take I-35 to Emporia to pick it up.
- 54 doesn't go through KC,MO. You pick it up about 100 miles south of there, it goes through Wichita and on to Liberal, KS. 54 is an ok road but it can have a lot of truck and car traffic that can back up on it at times because of people wanting to run different speeds. The speed limit in most places is 65 mph . TX and NM have a lot of 2 lane and if you don't run atleast 70 mph you will have cars and big trucks on your back door wanting to get around you !! Trust me I run 54 to Tucumcari, to I-40 and on to California and back about 20 times a year. Other than that I like it.
- Road is very RV friendly for a 2 lane highway. Lots of trucks, but many passing lanes have been added. Pan handle of Oklahoma is mostly 4 lane now. Have a great trip!
- Hwy. 54 is a good road so is Hwy.50.54 had some Road work goin on in July.
- It was a good road last summer when we traveled it with our fiver. Most all U.S. Highways in that part of the United States are RV friendly.
