Southern Oregon Coast to I-5

From between bandon and Brookings, what is the best route back to the valley if headed north toward Portland? Towing 27’ TT.
  • Humbug SP or Cape Blanco SP...both just a little south of Bandon.......or Bullerds Beach about 2 miles north of Bandon.
  • Sounds like I have options. thanks folks.

Since I’ve got your attention... where would you stay on the coast between Bandon and Brookings? We’re looking for 3 nights base camp somewhere in the middle.... and it would be great if there were cabins or yurts available nearby for some other family who’ll be tagging along.

We’re going to do Crater Lake or Diamond Lake, and Redwood Meadows RV campground, for the other parts of the trip.
  • 42 is another choice, not a bad drive, very scenic and brings you out at Winston by wild life safari if that interest you.
  • I would go further north to Florence and then cut over to the 5.

The 38 from Reedsport to Drain on 38 takes you through a narrow bridge and a tunnel. Meeting a logging truck or another motorhome either in the tunnel or bridge is not fun.

During a recent rally in Coos Bay, one in our group lost an awning another coach, lost a mirror, and I managed to leave some bay door on the bridge. All because people in the other lane decided to take their half out of the center.

Don't get me wrong, I have traveled 38 numerous time without problems, I guess it was my turn.
  • I've taken Hwy 38 Umpqua Hwy and while it looks twisty, it is a great easy scenic road. You pick it up in Reedsport and it comes out just below Cottage Grove. Great little winery in Elkton also.

I'd probably take 101 North to either Reedsport to go east on 38, or further north to Florence and take 126 east to Eugene ( take the Beltline highway north around downtown Eugene for quickest/esiest access to I-5. )
  • North on 101 to Reedsport. Head east there. You come out to I5 about 30 miles south of Eugene. Beautiful easy drive along the river
