Suggested routes from Pensicola beach to Las Vegas

Need some advise. what is the best route form Pensicola beach Florida to Las Vegas Nevada. I am pulling a 36 foot 5er. I can only go about 180 to 200 miles before I need fuel. I would like to spend a few days in New. Mexico as well as a few days around Grand Canyon.

Suggestions please.
  • A warning about Dallas as well is they've went to toll road with camera enforcement. When you are trying to navigate a new city, the signage sneaks up on you too. I don't think it affects the route given to you to get to I-40 but something worth being aware of.

I've driven across TX on I-40 and I-10 and it's a long painful drive regardless. I'd go with whichever is shorter (I think it's I-40). And you have to pick your poison on Houston vs. Dallas with a trailer. If you leave Pensacola on 17th, you can catch them on a weekend and not deal with as much traffic.
  • I 10 is as good as any. No big mountains. Once you get to NM you can work your way up to I 40 or work your way up to Socorro, NM and over to AZ . Going through Springerville, Show Low, Payson, Sedona, Flagstaff, AZ and then to GC. That's the way I like to go, been across there RVing and semi trucking more times than I can remember. You get to see some pretty country and it is not a bad drive at all.
  • Which is the better highway I10, or across I40? I do not know how good I10 is after you get west of Louisiana. I have traveled I40 but not I10. I will be leaving Pensacola around the 17th of April headed toward Vegas.
  • Depends on where in NM you want to stop in. You could take I 10 all the way to Las Cruses, NM then take I 25 north to I 40 to Flagstaff, AZ and up to the GC.
  • In my opinion (based on experience) it would be a mistake to take US 380 as a route around Dallas. It is extremely congested and has multiple traffic signals. You will be frustrated by this route.

Instead stay on US 69 all the way up to Sherman, Texas and take US 82 across north Texas. This is a much more pleasant route.

We used US 380 in earlier years, but learned that US 82 is a far better way to go.
  • I would take I-10 to I-49 in Louisiana north to I-20 at Shreveport. To bypass Dallas, at Lindale TX, take US69 north to US380 west. In Wichita Falls TX take US287 north to I-40. I-40 west to US93 at Kingman AZ. Take US93 into Las Vegas. Should be plenty of fuel stops along this route.
For fuel stops, we find Pilot-Flying J or Loves truck stops. Pilot Flying website has a trip planner feature that will show all their truck stops along your route.
Once you get your route we can help with places to stay.
