Travel thru Birmingham Bad construction downtown area

Heads up!!!!I-20 and I-65 and I-59 and I-22 thru downtown Bham will be very bad for the next year due to construction. I-20 and I-59 travelers can use the I-459 bypass easily. I-65 and I-22 travelers will have some very
awkward, slow, detours. Try to get info ahead of time and plan ahead. Maybe avoid Bham on I-65 and I-22 if there is a reasonable other route. I-65 Bham to Nashville can be replaced by taking I-459 aroundBham to I-59 north to I-24in Ga then I-24 to Nashville This is an easy, pretty drive, all interstate and only about 20 minutes longer.
  • It should be fun trying to get into the BJCC next month for the RV show.
  • We went through on I-20 in September and it was not easy. In December we went south of the city on 65 and 459 with no problem. When we headed back north and west on I-20 a few days later we had no issues, but it was very early on a Sunday.

I 459 is one of the best bypass routes in the country. Going east/west or west/east I have never experienced any slowdown at all. Traffic has been heavy, of course, but it just kept moving at posted speed and I just kept moving with it towing my fifth-wheel, and staying in my lane.
