US 15 in Pennsylvania

We are going to Lancaster Pa crossing into the U.S. at Buffalo or Lewiston. We are looking at US 15 through PA but wondering about gas. We tow a 33 ft TT with a non- diesel truck. We are used to travelling the Interstates and rely on The Next Exit when planning gas stops. Thanks.
  • Rt. 15 - just be sure you don't miss the right-hand turn on to Walnut St. in Wormleysburg. Rt. 15 & Front St. are one in the same until you get to this point. Things are not always marked real well in PA.

From the NY/PA line down to Williamsport Rt. 15 runs together with the "Future I-99 Corridor" so it's all 4-lane limited access. At just about any exit, however, you can get off and find fuel at the small towns along old Rt. 15. In Williamsport you leave the limited access and take the Rt. 15 bridge across the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in to South Williamsport. Lots of stations along here but you also have lots of traffic lights and cross traffic all the way south until you're below I-80 at Watsontown. You're back to 4-lane once you get below the Rt. 15 interchange with Rt. 581 except for the stretch at Dillsburg. Enjoy & safe travels.

On edit: Believe it or not most of Rt. 15 is actually in good shape. Otherwise, yeah, our roads in PA are among the worst in the U. S.

Yep, welcome to the Keystone State.

No kidding! I just visited some friends in PA last weekend, and was surprised that fuel prices were higher than here in Connecticut! I thought Connecticut was King of Taxes (or at least, our exalted leader thinks he is!).

I'd recommend filling up before going into PA if possible.
  • Yeah, PA is ridiculous - you'd think for that much money per gallon, the roads and bridges would be in better shape. I grew up there, and you could always tell when you left any other state bordering, and came into PA - you got bounced out of your seat and the hubcaps flew off. But slide over into Jersey and our taxes are 2nd lowest, after only Alaska. I paid $2.11 for regular yesterday.

  • In general you should have no issues finding gas but the Pilot, Love's, etc, kind of places are few and far between. We go every year from Waterdown to Carlisle, PA. When I still had my gas truck we would fill at Williamsport which was about the maximum I would push it on one tank. That was about 430 km. for me.

Just our personal preference but to vary the trip but we prefer to go I-90 to Batavia, then we take 63 & 36 down to Mt Morris from there where we pick up I-390. We also stay on 15 from Williamsport to Sunbury instead of I-180 just for the variation. We also found that in general gas in Pennsylvania was less expensive than in New York.
