Anyone travelled with travel trailer on US 501 from Lynchburg, Virginia to Natural Bridge, Virginia? Planning a trip and my Good Sam Trip Planner takes me that route from South Central Va. From the map looks like a very winding route? I'm pulling 36 ft of trailer.

Well I live in Lynchburg and, unless you are comfortable with a curvy road over some mountains, then I would not suggest 501. I have towed over it but I live here so know what to expect. As others stated, follow 460 West to Bonsack and pick up 220A for about 5 miles where you will hit I-81.

Thanks all for the advice. The VA truck web is a great tool. Looks like a US route to I81 is the best bet for safety and likely time.

I have never been on 501 but I can tell you that US 460 to I-81 is a very easy tow.

You can take US 460 west to the connector and pick up I81 just north of Roanoke.

I travel from just west of Charlottesville to southwest of Lynchburg every week to camp at my seasonal site. I am pretty familiar with the area you are speaking about. The problem is that there is a mountain between Lynchburg and Natural Bridge and unless you travel north of Lynchburg to go across it on US 60 or south to go across it on US 460, you're traveling over roads that are less than US routes and may cause you issues. This map might shed some light on it for you - it's Virginia's truck routes map - http://vatruckweb.vdot.virginia.gov/VaTruckRestrictions.aspx

Well I wouldn't do it but my DH grew up in Lynchburg and says tractor trailers go that way.

From the parkway to Natural Bridge is curvy but not as bad. You can take 122 from Bedford to 501 which is a pretty drive. You can take 29 to north of Lynchburg then 130 west until it joins 501 just past the parkway.

Depends on where you are coming from and if Natural Bridge is your ultimate destination.
