The word motor home is easy to understand by Spanish speaking aduaneros,
Motor.... motor
Home..... casa, hogar
Intrpreted as casa rodante, translated to English, rolling home
All pickup trucks, and I repeat all are clasified as cargo carring vehicles the small ones with 4 doors are clasified as SUV, anything bigger than a Ford F-150 or equivalent in Chevrolet or Dodge is going to be looked at as a comercial vehicle, unless the words MOTOR HOME appear in the registration form and that allows that vegicle to enter regardles of wheight, it is no longer considered a comercial cargo carring vehicle.
This designation also applies to enclosed vans since now the ones with the benches are used as taxis and mini buses.
There was a whole lot of writing some time ago in this blog where the different rules for different importation types of comercial vehicles were downloaded, machine translated and given as those being the correct ones.
Reading and interpreting legal documents in Spanish in Mexico is not easy, simply two words that depending on how they are placed in the document will change the whole meaning and use and intent and completlly changing the outcome of that document.
Machine translations can not and will never be able to interpret the actual meaning and interpretation of the context of the document, even someone that has spoken, writen and read Spanish his or her entire life have a hard time with some of the "lawyer" fancy words used.
So check your documents and have the words MOTOR HOME included in the registration, I know that a pickup truck with a camper shell will not have the words in the registration, get your insurance agent to include them in the policy with some mention that if the camper shell is on the truck then it is insured as a MOTOR HOME, maybe showing this document to the aduanero the light bulb might blink, also show them the fact that it is acctually a home on wheels.
I hoppe that this is of some help, I hate to see folks being turned away for something so simple.
Siempre hay esperanza en esta vida.
