Why I NEVER drink campground water

You most likely won't die from drinking CG well water but it CAN make you sick.

If you have ever lived in a home with a well you know where it can be placed on your property in reference to the septic field, testing etc.
CG wells, septic field and all those lines of open septic pipes at each site are all crammed in one very small area and most put in waaaaay before codes were put in place.

And here's a news flash for you all, CG's are NOT required to test their well water monthly to make sure it is clear of bacteria.

JMHO those of you who DO drink the CG water most likely write off that bout of an upset stomach and/or diarrhea to drinking to much beer or that chilli you had the night before when it most likely was from the high level of bacteria in the water.

Which means you could have had another helping of that chili and another beer!!:W

Could happen anywhere,,in Ontario a while back some people died from E. coli in city water..
Their advice of boiling water for one minute seems bit short,though,I think at least 10 minutes would be needed to kill any bacteria

I NEVER drink city water. Way too many chemicals in it. The stuff must be toxic. It stinks and tastes odd. Even boiling doesn't remove that awful flavor.

Have been on untreated well water for 25 years. Can't go back now.

Ya and all that river water comes up from the Dakotas,no wonder the beer is limp.Who knew.

I only drink in campgrounds where I can wear my tinfoil hat.

During our 16+ years of full-timing and traveling constantly in the lower 48 and Canada, Yukon, Alaska including dry camping about 90% of the time and getting our freshwater tank filled at various places, we always drank the water from our holding tank.

We usually do drink the campground water, but on our last trip to Alaska we had a really bad experience. I wish I could remember the campground, but after we hooked up to the water and had filled our holding tanks, we started smelling this terrible odor---it was the water. It took us two times of going through the purification/treatment procedure to finally get rid of the odor. From then on, I always check the campground water (for odor) before using.

We live on an acreage, have done so for 15 years now. We have our well water tested each spring during runoff. We trust OUR water and we always carry 3 one gallon glass jugs of OUR water when ever we leave home in the RV. We never drink the water in our holding tank even if it came from OUR well.

On longer trips (as snowbirds) we fill the 3 jugs at commercial water dispensers. We always avoid drinking campground water, just like the OP is suggesting. But, that is how we do it, "to each his own".

we drink the water provided by campgrounds and have never had an upset...so far. won't say it can't happen.

We drink water from our on board fresh water tank. Usually filled from the tap. O M G
