Acadia NP -- Blackwoods Campground 2021

We are beginning to plan for a trip to Acadia National Park October next year (2021). Hopefully, the park will be open and there will be little or no virus -- wishful thinking. I know this is the peak season in a very busy Park and we will have trouble making reservations.

Our 5th wheel is 35 feet long and 13 1/2 feet tall. I looked on the reserve.gov website and they have sites that will accommodate a 35 foot length. However, a number that I looked at had a height limitation of only 11 feet.

Are there any suggestions on a site number that will accommodate our height? Or other choice sites?

All information is welcome.
  • Blackwoods will NOT accommodate your rig, I would look at Smugglers Den
  • I think Blackwoods is the one you have to pass under a bridge to get to.

Interior roads in Blackwood's are narrow, and the CG is fully forested, with many low limbs.
  • In addition to an RV-size issue, be aware almost all campgrounds and RV parks in Maine close by mid-October, many even earlier. Same goes for much on NH and VT.

The park will be open but as others have said finding an open campground is a totally different story. Another issue with Blackwoods is making sure you take the correct entrance: "The entrance to Blackwoods Campground is off of State Highway 3, six miles south of Bar Harbor. There is no entrance to the campground from Acadia National Park's Park Loop Rd. The Park Loop Rd. has several low bridges and the majority of it is one way traffic; do not enter any entrances with a vehicle or equipment that is 10'4" or more." Another option for a campground is the Bar Harbor Oceanside KOA-somewhat tight spots and pricey, but they are open until mid-October. Also note that Blackwoods did not open this year at all so those who had reservations may get first pick for next year. Most of the campgrounds in New England close by mid-October as after that point it just gets too cold for most.
