We have stopped in the Amboy area many times on our way to Kingman, Az. The hike out to the crater is very easy, glad you enjoyed being there. March 2008 there was a huge wildflower showing after some really good rain in the area.

You showed up at the right time. Beautiful. And that washboard road looks awesome as well.

Unfortunately the BLM has since paved the road to the crater and the parking area, as a result the area has a lot more visitors and of course the parking and road areas are very hot during the summer time due to the asphalt.

    Multiple wash outs on 66.

Over New Years we camped near Cadiz.

We took 78 to 66 then East to Chambless, South towards Cadiz then off road.

66 is closed between Ludlow and Amboy (I did not drive to Amboy to find out where 66 is closed West of Amboy.
66 is also closed East of Chambless, not sure how far.

While off roading South East of Cadiz (rock hounding) ran across the reason for the closure of 66 East of Chambless, massive flash flood. About 1/4 mile wide nothing left standing, vegetation gone and torn up, thick soft silt. I'm guessing this was from the rains in early December, as there was grass growing and a lot of green vegetation in the desert.

How are you liking that new rig of yours?

really like it,especially the gas milage, very close to the old F150,
to me range is important, with camper 400 miles, empty 500+ miles
I think you like the little things, your old truck didn't have, that the new ones have, even in a LX work truck
    6sp vs 4sp
tow haul vs no tow haul
    bigger brakes,better gauges,electic locker
