Can't talk about I-75 anywhere south of Toledo as we haven't taken it in years, but we take I-65 on our way back north from southern California back to Canada, we transit Memphis, Nashville and go through Louisville then up through Indiana on I-65 and then take the toll road to Toledo and up to Detroit on I-75 before we cross back into Canada.
There is construction on some sections (but where isn't there construction these days?) but we had no problems towing a 39 ft. 5th wheel (except taking the wrong exit onto 465 in Louisville, something we've done more than once, not marked very well!)
On edit, I just read the other post linked above, yes there are some bumpy sections, but nothing like I-75 from the Ohio border to Detroit, we found the roads in Mexico better than that section of interstate!
You shouldn't have a problem.
US 24 is 4 lane interstate-like from Ft Wayne to Toledo and would shave some time & $ off of your trip.
