Since only 14% of the actual federal govt is shutdown I would think there was help available. 86% is business as usual. Apparently the only part that shut down is the part we see the most of and has the biggest public impact. Funny how that works. Anarchy reins!

Isn't it funny how we think...we can do as we please, but if we get hurt then we whine and cry and EXPECT someone to come help us. I hope they send her a nice, fancy, gift wrapped BILL for SERVICES......just sayin....Dennis
WE can do as we please, We paid for that right. Gov has no right to take that away. Remember. They WORK for us. We don't belong to them. - TerryallanExplorer IISeems like a nonstory to me. Older lady falls, EMTs come get her. What's the big deal? The EMTs would have come to get her no matter where she was. Even in her own home. No Rangers there either.
Come walk the trails of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Even when the Gov is supposed to be working. You'll hard pressed to find a Ranger, and the EMTs will be the ones to come get you. I've driven for hours and never seen a Ranger, I've walked for hours, and never seen a Ranger. No big deal. - the_happiestcamExplorerCan someone explain to me how if the government wasn't shut down, that a 69 year old woman would have been prevented from falling? Granted, if there had been more rangers, they would have been first responders - but they still would have passed her off to the local emergency services.
- amandasgrammaExplorerIn Oregon, shut down or not, that's what the rangers would have done.....called search and rescue. They did NOTHING that they wouldn't have done anyway....
- weathershakExplorerTax payer dollars pay for the park. Tax payer dollars fay for the emergency services. Alot of folks spend months of planning to see our Nat. Parks. I dont blame some that cross over to use trails, mostly that were given by private land owners for our use. BUT, because it is government land, even thought the government didnt buy it, they can do as they see fit to close it. Sorry, this government aint working for me. Besides why furlough thousands of people, then tell them they are still getting paid. Put em back to work. :)

:h but how is it different if there wasn't a shutdown????? This comment makes no sense.
She got hurt walking a trail which is a "walking trail" and needed assistance. No different if she tripped on a sidewalk in downtown Bar harbor. Correct? - Executive45Explorer III
