Best Full Hookup- Atlanta Georgia

Taking the family on a weeks vacation to Atlanta in August. Looking for campground advise. I would like seomwthing that feels like a campground and not just a parking lot.

Thanks
  • The only one in the area with which we have any experience is Stone Mountain Park. Can feel like a parking lot in the loop around the office; sites along the lake in the trees are nicer and if we were to stay there again I'd opt for one of these. Very large, very busy park.
  • stone mountain campground, its my understanding the purple zone is the best.
  • Another vote for Stone Mountain. There is some history to be learned there with the relief carving on the mountain side.

40 miles from downtown Atlanta.....but that's about how far you have to go if Stone Mountain isn't available for some reason. It is the ONLY one I have found close to Atlanta, and I've looked a LOT.

The only drawback for me at Stone Mountain is that access to the good sites in the woods by the lake is tight. If you have a really BIG rig and/or aren't a very skilled driver that could be a problem.
  • Stone Mountain was nice for us. We had a site along the lake with a nice view of the lake and the side of the mountain. No sewer there though, but they do have full hook up front by the office.
  • Booked Stone Mountain for the second week in August. Thanks for the quick response and information.
