- I have been going to Southern Utah for literally over 50 years. The changes over the last couple decades has been phenomenal (in a bad way). I really started noticing it when mountain biking became a thing out there (nothing against bikers at all and it is well beyond that now). Who am I to say it is only ok for me to come out here and enjoy this scenery, trails, etc. It wasnt that long ago that the dispersed camping along the river along 128 north and east of Moab was closed while they put in some more campgrounds and pit toilets in those areas. Why, because there was so much poop it was unsafe to wander around in those areas. The stuff was everywhere and frankly it was disgusting you couldnt hardly pitch a tent without running into it. Pack it in pack it out signs everywhere but to no avail.
While it is sad to see that this type of regulation is needed I am not against it.
Last year my son and I went to Zion. It had been probably 7 years since I had been there. The shuttle service was there and required the previous time I was there and while not happy about that (compared to previous visits) by the end of my time there I thought better of it parking was not a problem, the shuttle was timely all in all a good thing. Even though we did several back country jaunts carrying a lot of gear for canyoneering. Got some strange looks on the shuttle but nonetheless it did work just fine. Fast forward to last year it took almost two hours for us to get on the shuttle due to the line at the visitor center. I wanted to show him the Narrows at the end. Have been there plenty of times over the years and even my previous visit you walk up canyon 1/4 mile past the end of the paved trail there are very few people left. This time there were close to a thousand people it was like a water park. I resigned to myself that I may never see it again as I was not sure I wanted to remember it that way. However who am I to say these people shouldn't be here. I can say some of their behavior was atrocious but beyond that ..... A sticky problem the enjoyment is ruining it. - Busloads of millions of foreigners in our National Parks add to the problem.
Overcrowding, a busload of people in the bathroom all at once, they are trashed and stink to high heaven.
Try going into the Visitor Center or Gift Shop...overrun by too many people.
Pretty soon you will not be able to drive through Yosemite and will have to get on a Shuttle.
Record sales of RV's but no new campground facilities or updating of parks to handle all the people.
No respect for the environment, peace and quiet, or others anymore.
They closed down the Rubicon due to feces, trash, and the same reasons.
What a shame. - It's what I call the Mobile Hobo thing or Ebeggars. Everyone thinks they can make YT videos, get Patreon and Adsense money and live for free. Think of your neighbors boring vacation videos only they're even more boring. I'm talking people of your typical working age. Often they have been fulltimers for less than two years and feel others are noobies and not them. They get their expert advice from other youtubers. I could rant about this for a solid 15 minutes. There's this one blowhard ebeggar who is always whining about places he enjoyed for free that are now shut down. He too dense to realize he's part of the problem.

All part of the ever growing complaints in all our parks. Bigotry has nothing to do with it. It is a fact.
I would say you are a Bigot and "indifferent" to others opinions by your post.

You go "elsewhere" and do not read my posts if you do not like them.- Thanks for the article. I went through Moab two months ago for the first time in 30 years. What a difference. Traffic (on a Tuesday morning) was nightmarish. Prices for food, gas, groceries are lodging are sky high. Not an empty parking space to be found at any retail establishment. Glad I was just passing through and not staying. Never again.
- This is very sad news, but restrictions on boondocking are becoming more and more common. There are some bad apples that have spoiled everything for all of us. The same thing is true of ATVs -- the vast majority of ATV users are law-abiding, but a few fools tear up the landscape and all ATVers suffer as roads and trails are closed off. (I am not an ATVer, but I can see that they are in a parallel situation to boondockers.)
The other problem is sheer demographics and an oddity of medical science. When we boondock, we notice that so many of our fellow dockers are aging Baby Boomers, just like we are. We are all retiring, and there are a lot of us. We all have some (but not a lot) of disposable income -- so instead of traveling to foreign countries, we are seeing the USA.
Worse yet, unlike all previous generations of retirees, we are healthier and more energetic. (Hurrah for medicine!) So instead of sitting at home and watching TV, we are all on the road and doing active sports. Cluttering up the landscape. As they say, I have seen the enemy and they is us!!
