Branson or Silver Dollar City

We've never been to either town, but wanted to see the Christmas displays on our way south, so we figured that this would be the year to do it. Any input regarding staying closer to Silver Dollar City or Branson? We prefer quiet and less congested, but if that's not possible then we'll just cope. Also, does Silver Dollar City dress up for Christmas to the extent that Branson does? We're not big into shows, but more into sightseeing. Thanks for any advice.
  • Silver dollar city is a theme park. They do it up big for Christmas. We went last year and stayed just down the road from silver dollar city at acorn acres rv park.
  • Silver Dollar City is not to be missed for the Xmas shows their lights are very good. Compton Ridge or Wilderness campground is between Branson and Silver Dollar city and is out of the traffic jam area. They may even have shuttles to take you to SDC
  • Silver dollar City is a special place at Christmas. It is lit up from top to bottom. It has special Christmas shows and a parade and a huge Christmas tree in the town square. It will be crowded but it is a large area. Both SDC and Branson can be congested. They do know how to celebrate the real meaning of Christmas.
  • Thanks for the info folks. I was under the impression that SDC was an actual town......in fact, when I plugged it into my Streets and Trips, that's how it looked on the map. Sounds like a worthwhile place to see in December though.
By the way, has anyone stayed at Branson Shenanigans RV Park?

Well, I just checked the satellite view, and it looks like Shenanigans is much more "in town" than the recommendations here. Thanks for the suggestions. I HATE driving in traffic when I can avoid it.
  • Compton Ridge is a very good choice as a campground for visiting both Silver Dollar City and Branson. It you want Christmas decorations then be sure to go to Silver Dollar City.
  • Acorn Acres is a mile and a half west of Silver Dollar City. By staying west of SDC you can get there without getting in that long line of traffic comming from Branson. My wife and I workkamped at Acorn Acres this summer and we highly recommend staying there. Should you decide to stay there tell them John and Bonnie say hello.
  • Thanks for all the tips everyone. John, I'll remember to pass your greeting along if we stay there. Looks like a nice location.
  • Both Compton Ridge and Wilderness run free shuttles to Silver Dollar City. Shuttle times vary depending the hours that SDC is open. We like Compton Ridge better because the sites are larger and they are off the highway vs. being right on it.
