Hello Fellow RVers!
My wife Vicky and I just concluded our week long 30th wedding anniversary trip up in southern Utah's beautiful Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks! We'd never camped in Utah before, we just hung out in the cooler regions of Arizona. This is basically due to just weekend camping before returning to the old time clock! Now that I can see the end of my working life's tunnel, we decided to expand our distance radius out a bit farther. We also wanted to test out our (new to us) tow vehicle, a 2001 F-350 diesel standard cab 4x4 I purchased from my 87 year old Father back in Connecticut. He had a Lance camper that he'd been to Alaska twice, Canada and all points in the lower 48, so the trucks been well broke in! We sold the camper as we already own a travel trailer.
I booked online a 3 night stay at the Bryce Canyon Pines Campground. We figured there might be another campground booking to help reduce our day trip miles. The 8 hour trip concluded at the BCP campground and what a beautiful site! Nestled in the tall pines, I backed into our FHU space and within minutes, we were relaxin'! We spent the next 2 days touring Bryce Canyon N.P. The parks road stretches 18 miles through scenic forests teaming with wildlife and literally dozens of awe inspiring ancient red earth spires and canyon vistas - absolutely wonderful! By the third day our anniversary, we concluded that the BCP campground needed to be our "base camp" for the rest of our stay! They were more than happy to accommodate and although the campground had future bookings, we didn't have to move from our current spot!
We celebrated our 30 years together over dinner at the nearby BCP restaurant with an awesome hearty red wine, half rack of BBQ ribs and SEVERAL slices of their homemade pies! I recommend them all but the Coconut Cream pie was to die for!
We day tripped over to Zion National Park and stood beneath gorgeous monolithic cliffs. The big horn sheep could be seen perilously navigating ledges down to the road and then vanishing within steps of clearing the pavement. This trip to nearby southern Utah was amazing as everyday ended back at the campground meeting new arrivals and learning of their travels! The best part about camping for Vicky and I is sharing time out in the woods and the people we meet there!
