All these great suggestions everyone is posting means we will have to leave a week earlier than I anticipated!
We visited Alamogordo once about 25 years ago (our SIL was stationed in Alamogordo) and we had a brief visit to the dunes but did not know about the museum. I recall our drive from there to Phoenix, I put the car radio on scan and for a long time it kept scanning, never found a station.
