Campground Amenities vs lower prices

Which do you prefer?

Lower cg rates with just basic FHU and clean bath houses?

Or are you willing to pay higher rates for amenities (and the accompanying insurance) for items such as pools, bounce pillows, playgrounds, etc?

I agree 100%, The individual you describe, is of great value and should be listened too.

My reference was more, as to the fellow who has been there 3 weeks, thinks he knows everything, and is sure he knows how to run your business much better than you do after 39 years.

My guess is you have had your share of those folks as well.

Its great having a choice in the amenities you want/need. On a long trip last year we found exactly what we needed, where we needed it by planning ahead. Two small family reunions where at C.G.s with lots of amenities for the kids. Keep them busy and they won't be a pain in the a_ _ for other campers. While on the road we had great low amenity C.G. with pull thru, FHU. One C.G. east of Denver even had a good $10 pizza delivered to the camp site and pancake breakfast in the morning. The 5 week trip was great, largely due to the C.G.s we choose. Only one disappointing C.G. on the whole trip. So the answer to the OP is , I want them both.

We run into people saying the rates are to high for the CG we manage. And yes they are a little higher then the CGs around the area. But this CG wasn't built for the everybody crowd. It was for people who want to relax.

As for me I'd rather spend the extra cash for a nice clean CG wit stuff to do on site. I'd rather be in a pool and not the local lake because it's way nasty...

Yup, having been in corporate for 32 years I can value that statement. (I was neither of those people BTW)

Our wants & needs are very simple too and why we always purchase a good truely self-contained RV that rivals a stick built home but has wheels under it or sits on the back of our truck so it goes to the various places we want to go to and when we want to and allows us live just like when at home with having NO hookups needed at all. Simple added amenities that make that so easy are: holding tanks, propane, led lights thruout, a proper sized inverter and a adequate battery bank, an adequate quiet generator, your own very secure WIFI, etc, and then using commonsense. Makes for true comfort and a very fun experience and not being overcharged for "things" you don't use or want at CG's. Dry camping in the past therefore is in the past and no longer if you help yourself!

The only amenity that is really appreciated onsite is 30amp power. We can get along just fine for 6 days without water or sewer onsite though both need to be available on the property somewhere.

Can tolerate carpark resort style CGs for only a few days. Not that we don't like other people, just don't like to be right next to the neighbours.

Don't need a pull through. Know how to reverse.
Don't need an absolutely level site. Know how to use boards to level up.
Don't need satelite accessibility. An over the air signal will do for a little news & weather but is not a necessity.
Don't need a shower or restroom. Our RV is equipped with both. Don't use CG facilities.
A table & fire ring are high on the want list.

Our wants & needs are very simple.

This almost the same question as, "Do you travel with kids?" 🙂

If you are an old fart, then you probably don't care about the amenities for kids, unless you are traveling with your grandkids. But for us younger farts who still have kids at home, it's the kids vacation too. We do try to find places that offer that sort of stuff or things that will give our kid somethign they will like to do. Not all kids like to hike or fish. Some like to interact with other kids and make friends. Some like to swing, go on a merry go round, swim in a pool, bounce on a bouncy pillow or trampoline.

With that said, we value a park or resort based on what you get for the money. If there are no hook ups or only hook ups and nothing else. Then it's probably not a place we will go with exception if it is a government park or an overnighter on a destination trip. And then again, we would expect lower prices (no more than $30-40/night). Start adding the amenities for the kids and other things like cable tv, wifi and etc, then the price goes up.

Well I think end of the day, by WPRV's account he has run a successful growing small business for many years.

Pretty hard for any of us in the cheap seats to argue, with what appears to be a good business plan on his part.

Lower prices, we have never used a pool, playground , clubhouse, game room or any other amenities, at a CG, other than the FHU, but can get along just fine in COE CG's with just water & electric.

No amenities but have to have large campsites, trees, shade and privacy.

For us they can keep the playground, the bounce house, the minigolf, the pool, etc. What we want is a full hookup with properly working electric, water and sewer - and the site must be level. Clean toilets and showers are a plus. We will pay extra for working wifi and decent cable TV. Prices are getting high - depending on the area for even basic sites - and too often the site is way off level. We don't have any leveling system of any kind and can't install one. We rely now on Andersen Leveling ramps after giving up on Lego blocks, but even with the ramps some sites still are too far off. I wish I could push a button or crank a crank, but I can't and campgrounds don't seem to understand this problem - so for a level site I would also pay more. But that is it. They can keep the rest - and when I look at a website I want to see photos of the actual campsites - not the kid's Halloween parade, or the arts and crafts class, or a kid being pulled around in a wagon.
