Campgrounds Within 5 Hours of Long Island

We've got a wide age range from toddlers, middle school age boys, middle aged adults and up to 70 year old grandparents. We've got 3 trailers and might need at least 2 cabins or a hotel near the campground for those without a trailer. Trailers sites HAVE to have water, electric and sewer and allow dogs.

In the past few years we've been to Normandy Farms, Lake George RV Park and Jellystone Lazy River (ranked favorite to least favorite campground)

Any other suggestions within about 5 hours of Long Island for next summer? We are contemplating Normandy again but wouldn't mind trying somewhere else too.
  • HI CM11599 TRY ASHAWAY CG IN ASHAWAY,RI. CLINT THE OWNER IS A REAL GENTLEMAN AND RUNS A VERY CLEAN PLACE WITH PLENTY TO KEEP KIDS BUSY. FROM MY HOUSE IN MANORVILLE TO ORIENT PT FEERY TO ASHAWAY IS 63 MILES. IF YOU GO WEST FRON NEW LONDON TRY ACES HIGH A SUPER NICE PLACE CLOSE TO
MYSTIC SEAPORT. HEADING WEST OFF TAPPAN ZEE TO 87 TO 17 WEST TRY BLACK BNEAR CG IN FLORIDA,NY. AL OF THESE ARE LESS THAN A 4 HOUR RIDE. HAPPY TRAILS, OILCAN.
  • Hershey Pa, theme parks, to Factory tour, gardens and zoo. And the Amish areas in Lancaster are close too.
  • Not quite as resorty as the places you have mentioned, but look into Grandview Campresort and cottages in Moodus, Ct

Very scenic campground & area. Clean/ well maintained campground. Has a pool. Staff very helpful, professional. Gets very good reviews

Somewhat pricey but then again it's Ct.

  • Couple more for you:

    1. Moose Hillock in Lake George
    2. Cherry Hill near DC.
    3. West Canada Creek Campsites in Poland NY (12 miles north of Utica)
    4. Villages at Turning Stone, Verona, NY
  • We traveled with our daughter and friend for years. These are a few places that we wnet to not far off of Eastern Long Island

Danforth Bay Lake Ossippee New Hamsphire, Bar Harbor KOA both with in 5 hours from the ferry to New London. Cape Cod Camping Resort about 1.5 hours from the ferry. Lots to do with the kids as is PineWood in Plymouth Mass.

Cape Cod and Pine Wood both have lakes and pools. Koa Bar Hawbah has someone who cooks Lobstah dinners right in the CG.Free shuttle bus from the CG to around the Island. Pinewood is 10 minutes to downtown Plymouth. Take a ferry across Cape Cod bay to P Town go whale watching etc. Cape Cod has a rail trail. They paved the rail road tracks and you can bike from town to town. Danforth bay in Lake Ossippee, Mount Washington nearby plus lots to do nearby by. Clarks famous dancing bear etc.

It might be a little tough this late getting full hookup sites. Especially 3 trailer sites for the same weekend, and really especially if you want them together.

Odetah Camping Resort in Bozrah, Connecticut might be good.

Wolf's Den Family Campground in East Haddam, Connecticut. We've been here many times and always enjoyed it. Gillette's Castle state park is nearby (very cool small "castle").

River Bend Campground in Oneco, Connecticut. It has been a few years since we've been here, but we've always had fun here. Dogs are very welcome. Not a really fancy place, but neat, clean, and the staff is great. Almost every weekend they have a theme - Cowboy Weekend is a hoot, and so is Halloween weekend. And relatively nearby in Brooklyn, Connecticut is a Buffalo farm that is cool to visit.

Looking for next year suggestions I believe.
  • Knoebel's comes to my mind; their Lake Glory campground would be more to your requirements than the one right at the park (which doesn't have full hookups available). There are one or two nice campgrounds not directly associated with Knoebels in the immediate area as well.
