- pattyzExplorerThanks everyone, you been a big help, I called for sites today, can u believe just about booked up! No super sites left, for wk. Oct 1st, no cable sites left, so took a (so called 60 ft.) one site 198 soooo, just gonna have to crank up that antenna.:R Lots of Halloween stuff going on as Oct 1 thru 31st. So it drawls the people I'm assuming. Staff was really helpful when it comes to find a site for my friends 40 ft. :E5th wheel going with us.
- jasoncwExplorerThe premium sites are very different than the rest of the park. When going to the premium sites, it's like going to a totally different park. The main CG is pretty tight, but also more shady. The premium sites are in a different section, almost like it was a separate add-on. MUCH larger, but relatively no shade. Going off memory, I was there about 2 years ago. We were on the premium sites, and just due to the size difference, I would choose those again. But if you're going in Oct, I imagine the regular CG sites may not be as packed as they were when we went (in July).
We chose Trav-L-Park over KOA due to many recommendations here. And stayed away from First Landing due to no sewer hook-ups. I do remember some of the Navy jets flying overhead, but I don't remember them being bothersome. My kids (10, 7, and 7 at the time) didn't have any issues sleeping. - VeebyesExplorer IIBeen to Holiday L Park a couple of times. Being less than a mile off the end of an active runway gets old after awhile. Those jets are far louder than anything commercial.
It is a typical large private CG. Nothing especially good or bad about it.
Might try 1st Landing next time passing through VB. We don't stop for the beach. See sig for home & reason why. - jnharleyExplorerThe sound of the Navy jets is bad (I know, the sound of freedom). Worked for the Navy for 33 years so I am not anti military. The jets fly low over the campground and it is impossible to even talk outside let alone sit outside. However, they usually do not fly on the weekend and are usually finished by 10:00 pm. We lived in Va Beach for almost 20 years and thankfully we were not near the flight patterns for the military jets. Not sure how people get their kids to sleep through that noise. We have stayed at Holiday Travel Park a bunch of times. We have stayed on both sites and prefer the premium ones but we did not think the regular sites were bad. After Labor Day, crowds should be down and that crowded feeling should go away. Holliday Travel Park also has a free parking lot for campers at the oceanfront.
- LantleyNomadYou guys have questionable memories. First Landing does not have full hook ups the beach faces the bay not the ocean. There are no sand dunes or ocean view at Trav L park.
What you guys do have correct is both places are great destinations for seeing Va Beach. Classic comparison larger private sites at first landing state parks. Lots of nature and bike trails. Walking distance to bay beach. No sewer at sites.
Trav L FHU sites, pool dedicated parking lot at the beach. Smaller sites.Closer to the action - rossungerExplorerWe stayed at the Holiday Travel Park several years ago. As I remember I liked the sites about mid way in the park. If you get too close to the sand dunes you can't see the ocean. I also liked the sites which had my door facing the ocean. There was a nicer breeze and again there is the ocean view. Very nice park as I remember. They had movies at night. The swimming pool was a bit of a walk and I believe it was a salt water pool.

Charlotte, NC - RjdreyerExplorer1st Landing is water/electric only, but I think it is better than Holiday Trav-L-Park. We usually go 4 days with no problems, just use park showers.
The dump station is pretty convenient. Easy access as your leaving. Just plan departure day/time, i.e usually sunday & monday mornings are busy departure times. - DutchmenSportExplorerFirst Landing State Park does have full hook-ups. We stayed there a week when my daughter was in the Navy stationed at Norfolk. We were there in March a few years ago and we were about only 1 of 4 campers there the entire week. The ocean was just on the other side of the sand dunes. Absolutely great! Loved it. My daughter is now out of the Navy and lives in Kansas City, Missouri, (yup, right in the middle of the USA), about as far away from any oceans in any direction as she can get now! I wonder why????
- pattyzExplorerIt will be Oct 1, so should be quiet by then all but the planes. Does the S park have any sewer hookups? I got a spouse who hates lining up at the dump stations. We just plan to hang out beach wise for the week.
- icanonExplorerWas there last summer CG it can be noisy as airforce planes frequently flies low over the CG.
