Davis CA Stealth Camping

k6dcp ~ What a great ending to your adventure! A Class B certainly can be the ultimate Stealth vehicle. Finding your comfort zone is a perfect way to travel and practice will only build your confidence. Hopefully your story will encourage others to attempt something that they might have not, before.

Bka0721,I'm happy to answer your questions. First of all, I did find a parking lot near the small University airport. I'm not sure who owned it. It had a few cars in it and some lights, but wasn't too bright. I was so tired after driving about 6 hours that it was easy to just go back to the bed and collapse, without any activity that required me to turn on any lights.

I was a little nervous about someone pounding on the door in the middle of the night, so I will confess that I slept in my clothes, feeling I'd be a little more comfortable facing someone if I weren't in pajamas.

I slept like a log, woke up, got into the driver's seat, and drove away, as you had suggested. So it was a true stealth camping experience -- my first, but I can tell you it won't be my last.

The next time, I will probably feel comfortable enough to change into pjs, which should make it even a tad better!

I have secret spots and "secret" spots. The first are places we frequent often and I'd rather they not become widely known, though I will share via PM. The "secret" spot would be one like, possibly, in this case that I don't want known before I use it but one that I will probably not use again or one that is not used for R&R.

k6dcp ~ Glad things worked great for you and that you came back and reported the outcome. Not many OP provide that benefit.

While it is certainly understandable that you choose not to provide the exact location, but it would serve the many if you would share in how you accomplished your adventure to Davis, CA. Many great suggestions were shared by many of the helpful people here, to your benefit. Used or not. It really comes down to whom frequent Forums like this. Those that wish to help others with their own experiences and blunders and those that only come here to gather information and not contribute. You choose how you wish to participate.

What might be helpful would be whether you ended up Stealth Camping, or just going to a nearby RV Park/Campground. If the former, what worked best? Going the Curb route? Residential, Commercial or Gov location? Parking lot at a business, current or out of business? Or a Wal-Mart for dry camping? Any information would benefit others in maybe trying it for the first time and seeing you were attempting the same, with great results.

Good goin. And as for sharing the spot location..you'll not see many on here telling the rest of us where their secret spot is, but they sure want you to tell them yours.

Just kidding. I found a nice quiet spot close to the University Airport, which is right next to a part of the UCDavis campus. I slept so well I slept right through the 6.0 earthquake at Napa, about 40 miles away. At the conference, I heard others talking about having been awakened by the quake, but I never noticed anything.

UC Davis has it's own airport that may offer possibilities for stealth camping. I've never been to the airport and don't know where the parking lot is. A lot of pilots leave their vehicles in the lots when they travel.
