Elkmont campground question

All this driving around with an empty or nearly empty fresh water tank would take some of the fun out of RVing for me. What if you find a gem of a campground on route?

There are water spigots at each of the bath room buildings. We always carry two 5-gallon jugs and have a two wheeled folding cart. My off-road POPUP camper has the 35 gallon fresh water tank I think. Doesn't take too long to fill it up once I get setup...

We camp at ELKMONT in the Smoky Mtn park all the time. Always try to get the F8 site...

My TT will hold about 500 lbs of water. That is a lot of weight bouncing up and down on the flimsy straps they use to hold those water tanks in with. I don't take a chance and run with about 10 gal of water. I have never in 15 years of camping had a problem filling my fresh water tank when I got to a campground.

It is different out West. Lots of nice places without any water.

You need a water thief. You put it on the end of your hose and hand hold it over the end of one of these unthreaded park water faucets.

Thanks folks for the replies. I have the water thief and the water jugs for refilling when we need to. We are traveling 750 mi. on this trip with one stop already planned. I really don't want haul any more weight up and down those hills than I have to . My tank holds 50 gal. so that is a lot of weight sloshing around . I still need to know if there is fresh water at the sugarlands welcome center. Again thanks for the replies.

I don't know about the Vis Cen but right from the Recreation.gov site:

"Restrooms at Elkmont Campground have flush toilets, cold running water, and utility sinks. Potable water is available at spigots near each restroom; use of hoses is not allowed. Elkmont Campground does not have electric, water, or sewer hook-ups. RV campers are encouraged to use the dump station across from Sugarlands Visitor Center, as there is no dump station in the campground."

If you use a hose for a few minutes I doubt anyone will complain.

Last time I was at that dump station it had fresh water available. Couple of years back though.

We go to Elkmont each year. There is fresh potable water at the dump station. When we arrive in town we go to the visitor center to get our schedule of events for the week, then drive across and fill our fresh tank to the very top. Then it is just short drive (maybe 3-4 miles) to Elkmont. Easy as can be. If we need extra water during the week, we use 5 gallon jug and get water from the bath houses.

That is the info I needed jayco . That is what I was hoping to do. I appreciate all the answers.
