Fall colors - East Coast

Upstate NY and Vermont are beautiful in the fall.

There is no prettier place for fall leaves than Route 10 between Deposit NY to Stamford NY = home sweet home.

and remember the sugar maples turn red, the poplar/beech turn yellow, and the oaks turn brown.

End of Sept, you need to go pretty far north, NY, VT, or NH, maybe the MA hills if your trip runs into mid Oct. Campgrounds get pretty full during leaf pepper season, most State parks close by Columbus day if not sooner. Adirondacks, Lake George, Green or White mts, work your way from one side to the other and back again.

Ben & Jerry's, Cabot Cheese, Lake Placid, Cannon Mt tram, Vermont General Store, Kancamagus Highway, Orvis, Mt Washington, Franconia Notch, Saranac Lake, to name a few favorites.

End of September is the Rockies - more of a Mid October for the East Coast/Alleghenies,

Colorado - Fall in the Rockies - comes in late September.

For me personally - Being an East Coast Guy I've never seen anything to top the Rockies in Colorado. The Depth and Magnitude of Color is Amazing.

Best Color I've ever seen is in Upstate New York - Large and with the Mountains just Beautiful - Issue is the East coast is not nearly as Reliable as the Rockies.

JMHO,

North Carolina Smokey Mountains, anywhere from the South Carolina border to the Kentucky Border, Pishga National Forest area, Asheville, Cherokee, Chimney Rock.

Anywhere in Kentucky and Tennessee, and Virginia following the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Northern states will have foliage change sooner than the Southern States. Even in Indiana, the Northern part of the state, foliage changes about 2 week apart between them.

When the change occurs is also dependent upon how cool it gets (when?) and how much rainfall there is. Cooler temps and less rain will cause the foliage to change sooner; warmer and wet will be later.

It's tricky finding the "peak" time.

Its going to be early this year in the Alleghenies. I was on Laurel Ridge last Weekend and the maples which are always the first to change are already turning orange with a lot of leaves already falling. Possibly from the wet summer.

New England or more south
