Flaming Gorge Jug Hollow Boondocking

We just spent 4 days at Jug Hollow on the Flaming Gorge East side. And could have spent more time there happily.

Getting there: From Highway 191 going north, you will cross the dam and then several miles later you will see the Antelope Flats USFS sign pointing left. That cg has a dumpstaion and water that you can use. A few miles further you'll see a sign for Jug Hollow road, there isn't much warning so slow down. Turn left and go about 5 miles. When you get to the camping area you'll start seeing RVs. There are camp sites in every direction right, left and straight ahead. Most sites have fire rings.

The sites off to the right seem to be up against a cliff but there is actually a branch of the reservoir down there and they are on the water.

We turned left on 208 at the big 'wash your boat' sign. That leads out on the peninsula.

There were a lot of RVs in the area but it is a very large area, maybe 2 to 3 square miles. We could see the roofs of maybe 6 other RV's from our spot but the nearest was at least 300 feet away. The most desired spots are on the water where there is no drop off. Good luck getting one but there are many others. We were about 50 feet from the water on a low rise.



Off to Green River north of Pinedale WY next, at a FHU cg right now Fort Bridger RV to wait for packages.

Actually I like trees and mountains too and we are headed for those next several stops in North West Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. But we had a good time at Flaming Gorge. After all the one thing we have plenty of in Florida is trees. But zero Mountains or even big hills....heh. Highest point in the state is something like 350 feet and that's on the Alabama border and not even a hilltop.

The Green River area turnoff is just north of the Warren bridge over the Green River south of Bondurant. It is BLM land, you can access the Union Pass road south of that bridge. There are sites along the river for miles. 43.032955, -110.103816

We drove up toward Union Pass a couple of years ago, spent a week near Pinedale. Did not get across since the road was blocked by a big slushy snow bank. But I noted the great camping spots on both sides of the river. There is an established CG on the south side and the sign near there says dispersed camping permitted.

Yes, you had better weather than we did haha! 🙂 We were in the 90s every day and then almost every afternoon the wind would pick up in true WY fashion.

I will add, the fishing at the Flaming Gorge is awesome. My husband was actually there on July 3rd (his family camps there every 4th, he's from Rock Springs) and caught 3 good size kokanee in a couple hours.

So my Green River and yours are nearby each other. We cut up 352 north of Cora (turns into 650/Green River Lakes Rd) and then stay in the dispersed areas for Bridger/Teton National Forest, a little past the establishd Whiskey Grove CG. So just a bit further in than your spot. Last year we did a real nice RZR ride through Union Pass area that started next to our campsite at the river and Union Pass Rd. to have lunch at Crooked Creek Guest Ranch outside of DuBois. But yes they have "melting season" so if you were there in early spring, that's not surprising that you encountered some slush. It's much better this time of year. I've also done snowmobile rides out there in the winter. That area is one of my favorite places in the world. My Father in Law lives in Pinedale during the summer and we just acquired a piece of land between Pinedale and Boulder to eventually build a cabin on.

Another meal stop if you're looking and since you're really close, the restaurant next to the Conoco in Daniel was one of the better meals I've had in awhile.

We've spent 4th of July on the West side out there... can't say I enjoyed it thoroughly as it was quite hot and our AC died that year.

Enjoy the Green River Lakes area (assuming that's what you mean by Green River north of Pinedale). We will be there around Labor Day. If you haven't been before, be aware that the road out to the established campground on the lake is pretty dang rough. We boondock by the river "closer in" and just ride our side by side to the Lake to avoid some of it. That might be what you're doing anyway.

If you need somewhere to eat/have a beer, Kendall Valley Lodge right before you get to the NF parking area has a restaurant and small bar. You can also buy licenses there for fishing.
