We go to see our daughter a couple times each year ........... Unfortunately those time are not in most campground schedule. I mean we go in early April and early November.The only place we have found is Ramblin’ Pines Campground 801 Hoods Mill Road Woodbine MD. These people are the typical KOA like places charging 50 bucks plus a night.We have a 40' TT and 2500 crew cab truck so the next issue is finding a place that can handle that.Any help is welcome because not only is this campground 35 minutes from my daughter it is in the wrong direction when we head west. RVreviews offers little and there is a camp near a river by some railroad tracks but not way for us and our trailer to get in (to steep at tracks).TIATom

How long will you be in the town?If it was me I would Stay a night or 2 at Walmart or Francis Scott Key Mall.

$50.00 or so a night seems like a pretty decent price considering a decent hotel is gonna be over $100.00 a night. Take the cg that you mentioned, call ahead and tell them what size camper you have and park your truck wherever if it won't fit on your site with your camper.When we visit our daughter at college we always stay in a hotel (Hampton In. ) can't go wrong with them. Cg's are to far from her school and to far to pull the fiver for a quick trip. Good luck to you!!

Might look in Winchester VA but my first choice would be harpers ferry for a campground. About 30 mins or so from Harpers Ferry to Frederick. I have friends who commute to Frederick MD from WInchester though. It is a reverse commute and about an hour.

We went to the Jellystone near Hagerstown. Tried it twice and had problems both times and will not go back. The Hagerstown KOA gets reviews with reports of difficult roads to access including drop offs at the side of the entrance road. We have been looking for alternatives in this area and it seems like it is necessary to go further away for a decent campground - Harpers Ferry or even Winchester. Or for Frederick go to Gettysburg where there are a number of campgrounds and make the drive down and back to Frederick.

State parks in Thurmont,MD. Little Bennet or Ramblin Pines, New Brunswick are basically your choices.
Hagerstown is getting kind of far to be convenient.
There are no bargain priced places, Frederick is no longer on the outskirts and has become part of the metro area.

That's typical of larger metro areas like NYC, Chicago, etc. Nothing new and not much you can do about it, but pay the piper. It's the ole LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION thing.

Checked out Ramblin Pines one time. a hassle going to the office, getting admitted for a look see, then on leaving having to hike back and return something. they had an area, called it some fancy name, the vistas or somesuch, that was a bunch of tiered lots in an open, no tree area. Never went back. I'm surprised you went there 4 times.I didn't go once.

I've stayed at Rambling pines 4 different times. They may be fine for familys but real need a lot of work on their attitude with adults. if you go to the KOA in hagerstown, they advise to follow their directions, NOT the GPS ones.

Lots of choices out that way. 15 miles SE in Clarksburg you have Little Bennet Campground, You have the harpers ferry KOA, Of course hagerstown KOA an Jelly Stone. A little further north you have Gettysburg area campgrounds,
