you may have better luck with a smartphone, as that's just a pocket computer, and we know you can use a computer!

That way you can almost eliminate having to make business phone calls, which are usually being put on hold and listening to horrible music.

And I can remember very thrifty relatives who would make up codes and then call person to person with the code word -- for example, my uncle would take the bus from LA to Fresno and then call us, person to person, for Lassie Gray (Greyhound!) to tell us to come pick him up.

This has nothing to do with star parties, except (ha!) the skies were a lot darker back then in California's central valley.

Naio, I don't know if the previous years' images are available on the phone version of Google Earth. They are certainly on the full-size version, for laptops and desktops. But here is an embarrassing confession -- I don't really know how to use my cellphone. I can make calls, but that is about it. (I grew up in the days of rotary dial landlines, hard-wired to the wall. I can't get my rapidly-aging head around the notion that this little wafer in my pocket is really a computer.)

Wow someone in my peer group

remember party lines, after the Korean war our neighbor didn't have a phone and when her son would call us Mom would send me to get her so she wouldn't miss her sons call
When we visited the grandparents,Dad would call person to person to himself. so they would know we got home safe

Morning!

Is free dispersed camping allowed in that area? I'm from Tucson but have never camped in the Kaibab National Forest. How's that area off of FR 302?

Rudy
Lots of spots, but if it rains, you will need 4x4

What I want to know is how you get images for different days, beyond the default.

Is this just not available on the phone app?

Someone PMd me and asked how I could tell which shots were taken on the weekend and which were not. I wish I could say "just count the beer bottles." But really, the date is in the corner of each image, and you just Google the date, and it will tell you the day of the week.

Rudy, just cruise around on Google Earth and check it out. You will see pullouts! Don't forget to try different years -- some of the photos are in the winter, some are on weekdays. The photos taken on weekends are pretty useful -- you can see which spots are "big rig" friendly, and which are not, just by the types of rigs in the image.

For those of us old enough to remember the days before the internet, it is mind-boggling that I can sit in my living room and fly around the forests, traveling from year to year, looking for campsites.
