Grand Teton - Need quick park recommendations

Ideas on where to stay to see Grand Teton Park. We are taking a trip to yellowstone and booked some time on both the east and west side but wanted to move the trailer to the south and spend about 2 nights in Grand Teton before we left. Colter Bay RV Park was on my list but of course my last minute call to them didn't work in my favor. (had to move the trip dates to earlier at the last minute so scrambling a little)

Any recommendations for a RV Park near Grand Teton that would have water/electric?

Any place I should absolutely avoid?

I see you can potentially get a spot at the Colter Bay campground, and for two nights we could probably make it work with no hookups but I get nervous with no reservation and a car full of travelers.

Thanks in advance.
  • I really don't think you'd have trouble getting a site at Colter Bay or Gros Ventre campgrounds in Teton Nat'l Park. No, they don't accept reservations but each has 300 sites and the many times we've been there (with a 40' motorhome), they don't fill. We prefer Gros Ventre but if you're driving through the south exit of Yellowstone into the Tetons, your first stop would be Colter Bay so try that one first.

Try to stop in the morning as folks are leaving. Also, Colter Bay campground is right next to the RV park so you could check at the RV park and perhaps you'll snag a cancellation.
  • You shouldn't have any trouble getting a sit at a "walk up" at the Colter Bay CG or the Gros Ventre Campg'd. We have only stayed at Colter Bay one. Not RV park side.

I have heard good things about Gros Ventre Campground...get more animals walking by or close by, etc. Nice views. Doesn't fill up most nights, as well.
  • Thanks - I guess with that advice we'll give it a try and stop into Gros Ventre/Colter Bay in the morning. It's a Wednesday/Thursday night so I'm hoping that works in our favor. It makes my Trip Planning self a little squeamish to just roll the dice but I've been reading that they don't fill like you are saying. Crossing fingers!!
  • You might call Headwaters Lodge and Cabins at Flagg Ranch. They have 97 RV sites and the campground is located between Grand Teton and Yellowstone.
