heading south blues?

tomorrow we leave for Yuma. we have been packing every day for a week. little at a time packing that is. I just feel I have forgotten something. they tell me if you forget something just buy it in Yuma. I swear I have half my house in the TT already. but it seems like a big burden to hook up in the morning or this afternoon and be heading south. we will miss our family for sure. calling on the sell phone isn't the same. I don't know if I'm excited or sad. this is our first snow bird trip with a TT. DW just retired last Sept and we have been waiting out the birth of our new grandson. so many things to think and worry about, esp the weather. How do you all hold up to the pressure?
  • There are some state parks on the salton sea. Fountain of youth and three other mineral resorts are on Spa road about a mile or so on the east side of salton sea near Niland, which is a few miles from Slab City. No pressure here just sun, relaxed and activities if you like.

We have been here near Salton Sea for two weeks so far. Left Portland on jan 8, loving the 75 to 80 degree and sun every day. Why we have three coats is still a mystery. We found the Fountain of youth to be very very nice, clean many activities too. Enjoy your trip.

Watched a documentary of all what has happened over the years at the Salton Sea and it looked like a real disaster.

Is there a CG in the Salton Sea! :?

"...untold amounts of untreated sewage from Mexico, pumped into the sea via one of America's dirtiest waterways, the Northward-flowing New River, have turned the Salton into a truly foul place..."

  • It is when I have to head back up north the end of March is when I get the Blues

My first time all it took for me to get over the "do I really want to do this?".....
was one giant snowstorm and 2 days later getting hit with the second one. After that I was on the road heading south as soon as the snowplows had cleared a path big enough for me and the MH.:C

You will find out after one trip that

you will use and/or need only 10%

of the "stuff" you brought with!

Next time down you can count on getting gas mileage because you won't be weighed down with all that "stuff" you don't need! :B

On the serious side I would 'most definitely' weigh your trailer before you leave. You will be very surprised just how much all your 'snowbird stuff" vs 'weekend camping stuff" weighs and you can be over the CCC in a heart beat making for a not so fun drive down pulling it.
  • Have no problem with being south in the winter. Send letters/postcards to younger grandkids and the olders ones are to busy with their lives and have little time outside of new boyfriends/ college/ jobs to spend much time anyways. Kids are at work -- why would we not want to go south. We chat every day on facebook, pics posted on a regular basis so we see things going on. Retirement is great!
  • All I can say is I wish DW would have listened to me last September and headed south. This darn 47MPH east wind is getting really tiresome here in the gorge. about 15 miles east of me the wind gage broke when the wind speed his 115MPH
  • Just the opposite here, can't wait to head south for 6 months every fall.
  • Smart phones with texting are great for keeping up with teenage grandkids.

We have iPhones so we can do 'FaceTime' with the grandkids and our kids.

Surprisingly, I find my grandkids, especially the younger ones, love getting old fashioned touristy postcards. We send at least one a week to each of them.

Even my 90 year old father loves getting them.
