Horse Camping

Just back from Fish Lake Utah. I have been there many many times but never looked at the sites reserved for horse camping.

Well we did this time and I have to tell all my fellow equestrian friends it is nice. And you can ONLY stay there if you have horses.

There are corrals, hitch posts and more in each site so your beast is not in the same corral as my sweet angel of a horse.....LOL.... Anyway haa haa. There is also a group site at the very top of the campground.

The sites are in nice deep wooded forest area and off the main road. But easy to pull your living quarter trailer in. I saw a 6 horse backed in a site.

They have nice rest rooms and it is maintained by equestrian folks. I think they are called The Utah Back Country Horsemen. Anyway it is nice. I will try to remember the name of the campground and post it later.
  • A few Texas SPs have equestrian facilities. Just go to the Texas SP website & look them up.
  • Never knew of all these locations and thanks to all. Anybody else with other CG info for the equestrian please feel free to post the info.

    Thanks

  • Quite a few campgrounds on the OR Coast have lovely, separated horse-camping areas. And of course the beach here is entirely horse-friendly.
  • Backhawk Campground near the Mount Nebo wilderness area in Utah has an equestrian loop with corrals, hitching rails, watering troughs, and horse trails that lead directly from the campground.
  • Add East Fork State Park, just east of Cincinnati to your list of parks with areas for horses.
  • There are a lot of nice horse friendly CG's across the US. I left my horse farm behind me when I went full timing. So when I found out about CG's that are horse camps too I started searching for them and stay at them to get my horse fix.

I faithfully stay a month or two at Kentucky Horse Park CG every year! Great CG and a short walk from the RV park to see all types of horse activities going on year round.
  • custer state park in SD has a nice horse campground area called French Creek I think. It has shade and is off the beaten track and there are good trails for riding.
  • There is also a CG at Wickenburg, AZ that caters to horse camping. Macktee
